Protect Puvungna | Preserving Indigenous Sacred Spaces in California
Puvungna holds religious, cultural and historical significance to local tribes. As shared sacred site for Acjachemen, Tongva, Chumash, and other Tribal Nations; it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the California Native American Heritage Commission’s Sacred Lands Inventory. Cal State University Long Beach (CSULB) is built on 500 acres of this sacred space, the remaining 22-acre meadow is the last natural site where many continue to hold ceremonies throughout the year. CSULB has been trying to develop the lot since 1992. Friends of Puvungna Coalition of community members have united with other Native Organizers to demand the CSU Board of Trustees and Governor Newsom preserve this land. Our sacred places are too precious to be lost. Learn more and get involved @protectpuvungna
